The Problem

Of all the tourist areas in the UK, Bournemouth is one of the most well known and loved. There are literally hundreds of B&B's and hotels in Bournemouth, all of which cater for thousands of tourists from across the globe, each year. The first place the many people look when booking their hotels are the search engines. Competition on the major search phrases relating to Bournemouth hotels, is fierce. We were tasked with improving the rankings of the hotel website to get further up the rankings.

The Solution

Working with the hotel and carrying out some keyword research, we developed a list of major key phrases which would generate the traffic needed to get the desired amount of enquiries. Once we'd identified the phrases to target we then set to work. Our first stage was to generate some links to point to the website to improve the credibility of the website with the search engines. While working on the link building campaign, we restructured the website to improve the navigation and keyphrases throughout the website.

As part of the SEO campaign, we also reviewed each of the pages on the website and improved the keyphrase density throughout the website, as well as including keywords and phrases in the most relevant pages on the website. This was a time consuming but necessary process, which dramatically improved the search engine rankings.

The results

To get top search engine rankings can take months to achieve. In a competitive market such as this, we still managed to get the results we needed and managed to exceed our own expectations of just how high we could get the website.

Here are just some of the results achieved;

  • Traffic increased from 41 searches per year to 2771 per year on one major keyphrase and from 21 to 625 on another high traffic phrase.
  • Significant increase in hotel bookings.
  • Monthly average 47% increase in website traffic pre and post campaign.

Project Timescale

The SEO campaign took several months to plan out and fully implement to cover all of the areas necessary for the campaign to realise its potential. It took approximately six months to see the real benefits from the high positions. When the campaign finished, the top key phrases continued to improve and are still showing high to this day.
