Adwords

Googles pay per click (PPC) system which allows website owners to bid on keywords associated with their website. Adwords works on a bidding system, so the more you bid for each keyword (e.g. web design), the higher your advert will be shown in the results pages.

Adido are Google Adwords professionals, which means we have passed a set of exams and have years of experience managing our clients campaigns.

Affiliate marketing

A way of marketing services and products through third parties for an agreed commission rate. Many websites use affiliate marketing to increase their revenue by selling related products to their clients.

Banner advertising

Banner advertising was the main advertising model for most businesses in the late nineties but has since been replaced by text advertising due to 'banner blindness'. Banner adverts allow businesses to advertise their products on other websites using large Flash animations or animated GIFs. When users click on the banners, they are taken to the advertisers website and the originating website will generally receive a fixed fee or commission if the click turns into a lead for the business.

Email marketing

Email marketing is a hugely inexpensive way to reach your target audience compared to traditional paper based marketing. Email marketing works by sending targeted emails to selected individuals (who have given permission for their email address to be used) so that your message can be presented to your target audience very quickly and cost effectively.

Adido Solutions work in partnership several email marketing companies to bring our clients and their customers closer together. Call us on 01202 853610 for more information.

Keywords

Keywords are the words users will type into a search engine to find your website. The industry around keyword research, advertising and monetising is constantly growing as users turn to search engines more and more to find answers to their needs. Selecting the right keywords is crucial in defining the success of any website. Therefore, comprehensive keyword research needs to be carried out before the website design process begins.

Key phrases

A list of keywords which link together to make a phrase. As an example, keywords associated with the Adido website are; web design dorset, content management systems, website accessibility, website accessibility etc.

Pop up adverts

Pop up adverts started life back in the late nineties as a way of advertising online. They worked by opening mini websites in addition to the opened web page, thus putting the advertisement infront of the user whether they requested the page or not. Pop ups became BIG business due to their effectiveness compared against banner adverts. However, due to their inappropriateness (a large majority were related to porn & betting) they plagued Internet users in early 2000's so much that they became the target of many organisations. Many modern browsers (such as Firefox or Opera) and browser toolbars (Google, Yahoo, AOL etc) now come with pop up blockers to reduce the amount of pop ups shown meaning the industry has reduced significantly.

Skyscrapers

Skyscrapers are a type of banner advert which are shown vertically instead of horizontally.

Text links

Text links are the most popular businesses advertise online due to the success of Googles Adsense and Adwords tools and Overture (now Yahoo! Search Marketing). Text links are shown next to, or in, relevant content and when they are clicked on, take the surfer to another website. The website which has the text link will normally receive payment when users click on the link.
