We've worked with many companies since 2003 to help them improve their website design and online marketing campaigns. In this time we've achieved some great results and have managed to transform some of our clients to make them much more profitable and successful online. As a leading web design company we come up with lots of ideas which can be used to improve their websites, most of them see the light of day, some of them get no further than the notepad they were written on.

Of all the suggestions we make to our potential clients, SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is often the most favoured. Clients understand the concept of search engines and that potential clients of theirs will search the web to find their business. However, few understand the costs or rewards involved. Setting up a SEO campaign can only be done quickly or for little cost in very narrow niches. If you want to target high traffic phrases to bring thousands of visitors a month to your website then things get harder and more time consuming. To get your website ranked highly can require significant investment but the gains can be huge.

When a client of ours agrees to start an SEO campaign, we look forward to challenge. When they don't then we get disappointed. We thought it was about time to set the record straight to prove the difference that an effective SEO campaign can have on website traffic and also online sales.

Real life examples

As you can see from the above, a correctly optimsed website will generate more traffic. Not every SEO campaign is an instant success and as you can see the results range from a decent 18% to an impressive 135% increase within three months. Some of our non SEO'd websites did in fact actually see an increase in traffic but this in the main was unusual. In fact the clients who didn't go ahead with an SEO campaign ended up LOSING traffic overall, something which no website owner wants to see.

NOTE: The websites represented here are typical range of our clients. We didn't cherry pick the best results we could but made sure that the comparisons were as fair as possible.

Traffic is good but what about £££'s (sales)?

Good question! This isn't always easy to measure as most of our clients websites are not ecommerce websites so their is no tangible numbers to look at. Additionally, some of our SEO clients had websites built by other web design companies (we did try and warn them :) so we were unable to track them in the ways that we usually would.

What we do know from the sites that we can measure is that more traffic does, unsurprisingly mean more sales. From the figures we do have, we can say:

When you consider that some of our clients have products and services which sell for £000's, a near 50% increase in sales for almost zero cost could generate tens of thousands of pounds. In fact one of our clients, Playforce, saw a ONE MILLION pound increase in sales as result of our SEO campaign. The Return on Investment on this campaign was in well over 10000%.
